Description

The recipe is likely from the French surgeon Thomas Goulard, who developed Extract of Saturn (or Extract of Lead) and Vegeto-Mineral Water, which were used for their astringent properties. The marginalia includes Paine family names. 

This recipe appears to have been added to the front of a manuscript that collects lectures.
