Weather notes from Houston's journal describing the effects of a cold spring and wet summer on crops.
Monday Decr. 31 1787
Some Snow fell last night
but very modrate about 2 in
deep wind at NW
Thus ends this year in which
I may say that I have been
wonderfuly provided for by
infinite providence moreso
than I deserve; this year
the cropes failed very much
Being a late cold spring
and a weet summer and
very early frosts in Atum
But an exceeding fine fall
And moderate winter until
this time
Friday Feby. 18 .788
A fine frosty mor.g snow
Enough on the ground for
Sleighing river sheet wind
At NW Turns out to be a fine
day over head for the season
This winter as yet has been
very favourable to the poor
The god of Nature has been
Bountifely providing for
This settelment in a very
Remarkable manner
