A description recommending a small powder, perhaps also accompanied by juniper tea, to treat an unknown disorder. Side effects of the treatment may include torpid bowels, tender gums, and a coppery taste in the mouth. Image courtesy of the Nova Scotia Archives, MG100 Vol. 134 No.19R, Microfilm Reel 15,185.
Take one of the small powders every six hours
and tomorrow evening put the blister on place
where I showd you be sparing of your diet
and drink as little as possible, you can
drink some of the tea of Juniper berries
two or three times a day.
If you find a copperey taste on your mouth
or you gums become tender You had better
leave off for a day or two. If the bowels are
a little torpid you may be satisfied with
a Motion in two days
