A Receipt for the HOOPING
              COUGH.
Communicated by a Person
    of Distinction. 
TAKE
       Oil of mace, half an
ounce.
   Old tallow candle, about 
an inch and an half.
   Saffron, a penny worth.
  Best French brandy, a
quarter of a pint. 
   Let them just simmer to-
gether over the fire, in a new
earthern pipkin. Cut a piece
of brown paper in the shape
of a heart; spread this oint-
ment on the paper, and apply
it to the stomach, the shar-
pened end of the paper up-
permost. Anoint the sto-
mach, night and morning,  

 

with this ointment, still keep-
ing the paper on.
