Black Ink

To six quarts of rain or River

water put on pound & a half of fresh

blue galls of Aleppo bruised pretty 

small, eight ounces of clean hard

green copperas, eight ounces of 

clear gum arabic & two ounces 

of rock allum: let the whole stand

together in a large stone Bottle,

or earthen Pott, & stir the mixture

thoroughly once or twice a day,

till the tincture be sufficiently

strong, then let it settle, and

after some days decant it for

use -- N.B. If you soak the green

peelings of Walnuts with oak Saw Dust

in rain water for a fortnight, then

strain it & add the above Ingredients

the ink will be the stronger.
