I. Vel 1This text is copied from Donald Monro’s Observations on the Means of Preserving the Health of Soldiers; and of Conducting Military Hospitals... Second Edition. 2 vols. (London, 1780), pp 288-289. The second volume of this version includes a “Pharmacopoeia in usum nosocomii regii militaris” on pp 281-322, dated 1761. aliæ aquæ hujus generis præparati [sic] possint terendo in mortario vitreo elæosac-
=chara præparata cum oleis essentialibus
et sacchari albi 12 Quantitate. et
dein addendo aquæ fontane, vel
Spiritus vini tenuis quantitatem
sufficientem_____.
Translation
Pharmacopeia for the use of the Royal Military Hospital. In the Year 1782
Water of Juniper Berries
Of Cinnamon
Of Peppermint etc. etc.
I. Or other waters of this kind should be prepared by grinding in a glass mortar eleosacchara [sugar oils] prepared with essential oils and 12 times the quantity of white sugar, and then by adding a sufficient quantity of spring water or thin spirit of wine.
